Message :that Optima doesn't have the best CCA or reserve capacity or deep-discharge resilience... etc. Fine. I myself am on my 2ND red top (first one lasted 5 years, with abuse), so I am well aware they don't last forever.
My skyline came with a brand new one that had originally died for the owner (only 6 months old when it died).
Then, I got the skyline to dallas 6 months after the purchase, and guess what. It was dead and unchargable.

I had a red top in my Z some 5 or 6 years ago. Lasted 4 months.

For the money, you, I, and america at large are better off with a wet cell battery.

Caveat; If you are in the racing industry, and you require a drycell, then a super heavy Optima is still a POS for you.

IMHO.

:But, I personally like the fact that it keeps the engine bay *clean*--> the posts don't corrode (ever), it'll never leak (supposedly even if you crack the case, or so they
claim), and it outgases very little, if at all.

agreed... they are prefered when doing a battery relocation, allthough they still require a battery box.

:And IF you happen care at all how your engine bay looks asthetically, IMO the sealed low-maintenance batteries (like the Optima red & yellow tops) will always LOOK nicer than conventional car batteries. IMO. :)

I don't know. Black is beautiful...
And again, wd40 on a rag does wonders.
